Roger Titley's animal art makes its way to Austria
When the popular annual event, Klangwolke (Cloud of Sound), was held in Linz, Austria this year, the animals that formed a major part of the show were modelled on prototypes created in the studio of South African artist Roger Titley. Earlier in the year, 10 students from Linz University of the Arts spent a couple of weeks with Titley, learning how to build the foam models. Titley, his team and the students returned to Linz where, with 1000 volunteers, they built 460 puppet animals and performed with them. Then, in turn, they taught 460 volunteers in Linz.
In September, the animals featured in a multimedia choreographed dramatisation of destruction and rescue from a flood. The show, which included video projections, live music and fireworks, was watched by 80 000 people on the banks of the river Danube. Although this particular show is over, there are many more exciting projects in the pipeline for Titley. Watch this space!
