South Africa’s first electric car, Joule, is set to create 10000 jobs when its assembly line starts running in late 2012. The car, which won acclaim at auto shows in Paris and Geneva, will hit showroom floors in mid-2013.

Annie Bekker, an engineer at Optimal Energy, Joule’s developer, said that they’ll start manufacturing the car on a small scale this year, to test it. An announcement is also expected that a German car manufacturer will become involved in the manufacturing of the Joule.
