One more sleep!

17 February 2011

I may no longer be a Reach for a Dream candidate but I reckon SOMEONE should move mountains to get Bono to dedicate at least one number to me...

Not sure when or if any of you (other than Mark T) will get to read this but how can I possibly begin this blog without mentioning U2 - hence the One More Sleep? I may no longer be a Reach for a Dream candidate but, hell, I still reckon SOMEONE should move mountains to get Bono to dedicate at least one number to me or invite me on stage – I’ll even carry that machine gun if need be!  Remember that Michael Jackson did it all the time and even managed to take a few home for sleep-overs afterwards.

And to those of you who thought you were clever passing up on the opportunity of buying tickets (the SAME Mark T) well, there is always the Jukskei River camp out option courtesy of Steve Hofmeyr.  So I hope to see you all there – the weather bureau has predicted A Beautiful Day!

Healthwise, my check ups and injections are on a monthly basis so my life is fairly empty with no appointments to wake up to – quite strange after all this time.  All I have to report is that my radiated area has taken on a seriously sunburnt look and my underarm is bordering on the raw side.  The hormonal medication is playing havoc with my sunny disposition – and no clever comments from those p**d off OBFs please!

It was fantastic to shower and swim again but now I need to massage my scar to loosen it up – all very taut at the moment.  Had a really fantastic celebratory luncheon at Maestros on Friday with copious amounts of bubbly and yes, it all began with that bottle of Moet courtesy of Pat, (a former tennis partner) and was very well organized by Val (ditto) – so thanks for that girls.

I have been reprimanded on one or two issues since my last blog and therefore am forced to apologise – not one of my strengths so this is very likely a one off!  Firstly for the poor reproduction of the photo in my last blog – cell phone quality vs that of my professional photographer (but Leigh I think you were at the Builders Warehouse sale that day?).  I have attached an updated profile pic taken by Leigh at one of our many shoots taken at various stages through my cancer era – this one was taken at her shack on the foot of Table Mountain.  I also apparently ‘so need’ to apologise for hyperbolizing when it came to the size of the needle that shoots the bullet into my gut – Teagan was with me last Wed and complained bitterly about my exaggeration technique in a (pathetic?) attempt to attract more readers.  Luckily, this is the only thing I exaggerated – everything else has been true – a lot of it toned down so as not to scare some of you!  As I keep telling you, cancer is not for the faint hearted

However, hopefully soon I will be back on track with busy busy days ahead.  I am currently doing a correspondence creative writing course for 4 months, so – watch this space...

What a lovely photograph. Bono will be crazy not to haul you up on to stage with him. Looking forward to report backs on the creative writing course. xx

Alison the Beautiful it is! We'll watch out for you up on that claw tonight Al, and I wouldn't be surprised if Bono tried to take you home for a sleepover! Have a Beautiful Day!

Upbeat as always, not sure how you do it. Maybe you should pass some of the medicine my way. Love the pics, you are looking fab. I agree cancer is not for sissies. Keep up the good work and keep writing,I reckon it is a good release to send things into cyberspace. XS

I am/was a healthy, active 46-year-old woman who was suddenly diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer (which had spread to my lymph nodes) in June this year. This blog is a truthful and sometimes scathing view of my cancer experience and may offend other cancer patients at times. It is for the STRONG!
