From Hen House to Salad Bowl

The journey of an egg...

From Hen House to Salad Bowl

This journey wasn’t actually that long. A short car ride was all it took. Mostly, our eggs come from large farming establishments (battery or free-range is a choice that lies with the consumer) that need to be sorted, cleaned, boxed and transported across the country to supermarkets before we pluck them off the shelves.

Then said eggs may sit in the fridge for a few days, perhaps even a week, before being scrambled, poached or fried.

At FAIRLADY, we’ve shortcut the whole process. Our Deputy Editor and Creative Director, Caryn, lives in the country and has a gorgeous, egg-laying beast named Chips who’s very generous with his bounty.

Luckily for me, Caryn is with hers too. Last week I was presented with this beautiful box of freshly laid elliptical nuggets in a box decorated by daughter Juliet.

Pictured here, Chips, the eggs in question, and the dinner they became.
