2011 Oscar fashion fever - the highs and lows
We rate this year's Oscar looks...
When the US awards season begins every year I eagerly wake up bright and early to see who was wearing what the night before. There are always highs, and sadly very low lows.
All eyes should have been on Anne Hathaway as co-host, and they were, but on the red carpet it was for the wrong reasons. A puffy red Valentino couture gown with rosettes in all the wrong places was a complete let down, especially after her smash hit on the Golden Globes red carpet. Big pity. Her actual show gowns were far better.
Other bad calls go to Scarlett Johansson for her boring Dolce & Gabbana lace number (where was the sultry Scarlett we are used to?) and Nicole Kidman in Dior, wedding dresses should be left for those occasions only. And then there was Best Actress winner, Natalie Portman in Rodarte (design duo we are currently loving!). Yes she is heavily pregnant, but that's no excuse when you have top design houses at your finger tips. This look is just too understated.
Mention also needs to go to post pregnancy ladies Penelope Cruz (for showing us how to do things only one month after giving birth, although not mad about the gown) and Celine Dion, WOW WOW WOW is all I can say!
Enough with the no's and more with the right ons! Both Halle Berry and 14 year old Hailee Steinfeld were dressed by Marchesa, both were spot on for the red carpet and beautifully age appropriate, plus I love the nude hues. Top spot has to be Mila Kunis in lavendar Elie Saab. So stunning and slightly surprising from this usually more fashion forward celeb, but love it all the same. Feminine and glamorous. She shares first place with Mandy Moore (who knew?). Nude, sparkly, elegant and Monique Lhullier... it ticks all the right boxes. Cate Blanchett was also a top runner in Givenchy, some will like it and others will loath it, but I love it!
These are just my opinions, what are yours?
