Sebastian Barry has garnered yet another award for The Secret Scripture (Faber and Faber). The latest is the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for fiction, for which he was up against Sputnik Caledonia by Andrew Crumey, A Mercy by Toni Morrison, A Case of Exploding Mangoes by Mohammed Hanif and Pilcrow by Adam Mars-Jones. The James Tait Black Memorial Prize is Britian’s oldest literary prize, having been awarded since 1919. The Secret Scripture also earned him the 2008 Costa Book of the Year and was shortlisted for the 2009 Man Booker Prize. It is available in paperback for about R124,95.
