YUM YUM! Kojo Baffoe
Style Intern Sunshine chats to writer, poet, father and editor Kojo Baffoe.
Born to a Ghanaian father and German mother, this artist is the perfect husband and gentleman. Ladies, he's unavailable but we can always use Kojo as our blueprint/standard for our future husbands.
My full birth name is... Frank Kojo Baffoe Junior.
I was born in... Munich, Germany, in 1972, but now I’m based in Johannesburg.
My friends call me... K.J or Mr. B (I tend to be very serious sometimes).
The first thing I do when I wake up... is take my son's foot out of my mouth and check my emails.
Breakfast is... usually just coffee at the office or my son and I battle for my Fruit Loops, or I try to steal some of his Coco Pops.
When I have time... I watch movies or football (I’m obsessed with soccer).
My thinking place is... in the shower or my home office.
I make money by... writing columns for various newspapers, writing for businesses and scripting for various companies.
I indulge in... books and DVDs. I have an extensive Tarantino and Spike Lee Collection and a collection of about 500 CDs, if I don’t count the ones my siblings have stolen from me. Music and books are always my weakness. I will spend hours searching for any of the two.
High school was... BRILLIANT! I went to an International School in Lesotho in the 80s. We had so many nationalities under one roof, it was like the United Nations at my high school. Our teachers came from all over the world and that gave me world knowledge.
The last thing I do before I sleep... is set the music on my iPod that I want to fall asleep to, and switch off the TV. I can’t fall asleep with the TV on or even read a book. It’s the only thing that helps. (laughs)
Marriage is... the beginning of a new family and comfort for me. I have been married eight years and wish I had done it sooner
I have... quite a few tattoos. One of my favourite is my son’s portrait on my chest; but they all mean something special to me.
The easiest part of being a husband is... that I don't have to buy my own clothes.
Sexiness in a woman... is her mind. I find older women, over 40, are at their sexiest because of the knowledge they have gained and the way they carry themselves at that age. It’s something that younger women will acquire with age - it’s not that they are not sexy!
The biggest turnoff in women is... shallowness and a lady that doesn’t carry herself with poise.
A favourite female poet is... Julz Danby who I’ve met twice in my life and was fortunate enough to have her write the foreword in my book titled Voices in Head.
One of my favourite verses in poem is... by Amiri Baracka titled Pre-Phase to a 20 Volume Suicide Note.
My book collection consists of... a few autobiographies about various icons: Hugh Masekela, Sammy Davis, Miles Davis, Quincy Jones, Jimi Hendricks to name a few.
If I couldn’t write I would... find another mean of writing without having to use my hands. Technology is so advanced now, it’s almost possible to do anything.
This year I have... started to recognise that I have accomplished a few things and have learnt to be grateful for these. It was challenging at the beginning but now I look forward to waking up every day.
If you see me in the streets... say WASSUP! I try to reply to everyone on Facebook and interact on my blog called Evolutionary about exploring life (www.kojobaffoe.com). But if you ever want to email me, please drop me a mail on kojo@monstafunk.co.za.
