Justin Timberlake goes green

Singer Justin Timberlake loves to play golf. He also owns the greenest golf course in the United States.

The SexyBack singer posted an announcement on Twitter: "Just cut the ribbon for the new Mirimichi Performance Center! It looks incredible... Also, just received the GEO Award for 1st certified 'green' golf course! Pretty damn cool."

Mirimichi Performance Center is an 18-hole, par 72 golf course on 7,400 acres just outside Memphis Tennessee. It first opened on July 24, 2009. It closed in January for renovations and just reopened.

Greenpacks.org explains why it is so green: "The course’s irrigation and drainage systems re-use and maximize the use of rainwater; native grass areas and waste-bunkers help cut the amount of property that has to be maintained; more lake areas and re-circulating streams support wildlife; and there is a Natural Resource Management Center for biodegradable treatment of rinse water."

It is the only golf course in the world to calculate its own carbon imprint. Greenpacks.org also reports Timberlake plans to "add a fleet of electric golf-carts powered by solar panels, in addition to a LEED-certified clubhouse and food and beverage operations which use recycled and biodegradable materials."
