Sometimes the simplest things are that which affect our lives the most and you find love where you least expect it ... It was a Sunday evening, March 1, 2009. After a weekend at my parents' place, I was taking a bag of apples for one of my friends to his residence. Just as I had walked into my friend's place, Pieter suddenly "just appeared" in the doorway. We started talking (he even got his own apple), but after the conversation was over, I had this feeling as if I had known this person for years, although that night was the very first time we met. Peter must have been very fond of apples, since three days later he asked me on a movie date. I first said 'no' (this man must at least fight a bit for you), but after a month of letters and A LOT of sweets, we started dating. However, after obtaining my degree I had to move to Natal to work back my bursary while Pieter stayed behind in the Cape. After only 6 weeks (although Peter would say it was longer), he arrived in Natal with literally most of his possessions in the back of his bakkie! It was for me the saddest (but still amazing) experience, because here was a man who will leave everything behind so that he can start a whole new life with me. Our relationship really grew a lot during this period. Together we had to take on the "professional working life" and with our parents, friends and family so far away, we mostly just had each other. On Christmas Eve 2010, during a family vacation, Peter asked me to marry him at L'Agulhas, the most southern tip of Africa ... with his father's chocolate liqueur and his mother's Christmas sweets that he quickly grabbed from the closet under the bright moonlight. In the simplicity, it was perfect. May 6, 2011 was our wedding day in the beautiful Cape. I wanted our wedding to feel a bit more 'personal', so most of the decor was handmade. The hall was filled with shades of white, grey, moss green and pale pink with crystal beads hanging from willow branches. Here and there we added something with lace to provide a 'vintage' feel. Simple but beautiful. I married my best friend, partner, soul mate and source of strength in hard times.
