Carlien and Rudolph's wedding

How did you meet?

We grew up together. Rudolph and my brother are great friends from pre-school. We always knew each other but never thought it would turn out this way! But somewhere along the way we noticed each other, and the rest is history.

How did he propose?

It was just another Tuesday afternoon and Rudolph asked me to come with him to take picture of the orchards. I did not expect anything as he often takes photos to send to customers. When we got to the orchard it was lit with lanterns and a table was set for two, with champagne on ice. He went down on one knee and asked me to be by his side for as long as we live. And I said YES!

How did you decide on your venue?

We combined our tastes and styles for the wedding. Rudolph and I love the outdoors and both grew up on a farm, so it only made sense to have an outdoor wedding. We contacted the Aleit team with a difficult request – outdoor wedding but in an oak forest. Beloftebos was the first and only venue we looked at, and it was perfect.  

What was the style or theme?

Ours was a country wedding with a twist – a fairy forest with white couches and chandeliers. Our colour scheme was pale blue and green with hints of dirty pink. There were fires lit in big old rusty oil drums ( I know this sounds a bit funny, but it really created a nice atmosphere ) and one big fire on the side where we played Pétanque. The whole forest was lit with fairy light on the trees.

The flowers

We used Proteas for our flower arrangements, and that was the one constant throughout the wedding – from our invites to my bouquet to the reception. We even hung Proteas from the oak trees.
