Cape Town shops to hit!
We've hit the shops and found some great new stores for you to visit.
73 Kloof Street
Address: 73 Kloof Street, Cape Town
This gem is the flagship store for Jessica Harwood’s womenswear label Take Care and Keith Henning's menswear and luggage label Adriaan Kuiters. The shop has a capsule collection of clothes, accessories and shoes.
Take Care’s clothes are characterised by sheer fabrics, neutral tones and pops of coral and navy. Both the dresses and beautiful sheer tops are great for layering. Adriaan Kuiters offers clean cuts and a great selection of shorts and pants with fun, leather brogue shoes and postman-style bags.
The shop also features a small collection of leather shoes from Amanda Laird Cherry and necklaces from Skermunkil.
The store is perfectly divided between womenswear and menswear so it’s great for a ‘his & hers’ visit on a Saturday.
For our readers who aren’t in Cape Town, you can browse and purchase both Take Care and Adriaan Kuiters’ collections on www.spence.co.za.
The Foundry
Address: 160 Albert Road, Woodstock
This refurbished building now offers a new emporium in Woodstock, which combines creative studios, retail and office space. It currently hosts West Side Cafe, O.live and most recently Selah - a bespoke stationary store - and Dear Rae, a jewellery studio and shop.
While difficult to translate from Hebrew, Selah loosely means ‘stop and listen’. Using this concept, Andrew Breitenberg’s beautifully styled store offers a range of stationary wares – such as stitched journals and bright pens - that will inspire you to stop, ponder and gather your thoughts. You will feel like they’re stepping into a village store when browsing the wooden shelves filled with vintage cult stationary brands such as Moleskine and Muji and novelties such as paper tape and paper Polaroid frames.
One step into Dear Rae and you’ll be adding a number of goods to your wishlist. Jeweller Karin Rae Matthee has incredibly organic approach as reflected through her decor – from beautiful prints and fresh flowers to the wooden printer’s trays that are stacked with her mixed metal rings. We have our eye on the heart rings and the precious stone necklaces, and the prices are reasonable – just try walking out without buying one of her rings!
