Missibaba and Mevrou collaborate

3 July 2012

Chloe Townsend of Missbaba and Anna Verloren van Themaat of Mevrou have collaborated on a new collection.

It seemed only natural that friends Chloe Townsend of Missbaba and Anna Verloren van Themaat of Mevrou join creative forces and create a line of bags, scarves, cushions and vessels of their own. Aptly named M + M, the line is hitting the Missibaba store on Cape Town’s Bree Street this month.

The two friends met when Anna worked as the décor editor at Elle Decoration, and Chloe would make things for the magazine. ‘I had always admired Chloe’s work.’ said Anna. ‘It’s a real bonding experience to create together and it has made our friendship even stronger.’

Chloe and Anna have chosen to use bold, graphic prints on their designs in monochromatic textiles, and their focus is on using high quality leather and wool to create products that will last. Made from 100% Merino wool and leather imported from Namibia, all the products are knitted and stitched by hand and are available in Aztec, Arrows or Checkered designs. The beautiful tan leather and the dark chocolate-coloured cotton finish off these well-made products beautifully.

Anna says that creating a line with a friend is a wonderful process as they were both on the same wavelength. She says that the combination of quality materials, technique and pattern inspired the designs. She describes the whole process as organic: ‘As we went along, we discovered the things we liked, and then did more of that. We followed this process until we got to a place where we were both happy.’

Anna says that they hope to collaborate again next winter.
