Waterkloof Circle of Life Red 2008

3 November 2010

A thoroughly delicious red that’s light enough to be drunk on it’s own and strong enough to stand up to food

New from Waterkloof Estate is the Circle of Life red blend. The label (which one shouldn’t judge by, but is essentially what draws us to the shelf and prompts the bottle into the shopping trolley) is delicately designed and the screw cap seal makes for easy opening. The farm prides itself on biodynamic farming practices and a holistic approach to winemaking.

The name ‘Circle of Life’ refers to the ongoing cycle that exists in both winemaking ‘and life in general’, explains winemaker Werner Engelbrecht.

At R180 a bottle, this wine isn’t an everyday treat, but it’s a thoroughly delicious red that’s light enough to be drunk on it’s own and strong enough to stand up to food. I’m told that this wine will improve with age; I didn’t wait long enough to find out.
