Love spending an afternoon picnicing at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden? So do we so it's no surprise that this local picnic hot spot has been selected as one of the top places in the world to picnic.

The famous botanical garden was selected by National Geographic magazine as one of the world’s 10 picnic hot spots. Here are the other picnic spots that made the list: Milford Sound (New Zealand); the Huayna Picchu mountains (Peru);  Point Reyes National Seashore (California); Villa Borghese Gardens (Rome); Jardin des Tuileries (Paris); the Haleaka National Park (Hawaii); Aran Island (Ireland); the National Sculpture Garden (Washington DC); and the Singapore Botanical Gardens.

The Mother City's famous garden, which was established in 1913, boasts 7000 plant species and indigenous plants. It covers 36 hectares in a 528ha estate that contains a forest, fynbos, numerous animals and birds.

Since the weather is warming up, it's the perfect time to plan a picnic. If you're not in the mood to pack your own picnic, you can buy picnic hampers from The Kirstenbosch Tea Room.
