Lucky: The movie to watch

Directed Avie Luthra, Lucky is a movie about a recently orphaned 10-year-old boy named Lucky who soon finds out that luck is not on his side. Over the grave of his dead mother, Lucky (played by Sihle Dlamini) makes a promise to make something of himself.

Soon after the funeral Lucky leaves the security of his remote Zulu village for Johannesburg to meet his uncle (played by James Ngcobo) with the hope of going to school. Almost immediately Lucky finds out that his uncle has no use for him and his dreams of going to school are ruined. Lucky meets an elderly Indian woman called Padma (played by Jayashree Basavaraj ) with an inherent fear of black people, who takes him in as she would a stray dog. Together, unable to speak each other's language, they develop an unlikely bond.
