Children's gifts

I think buying for kids when they are younger is always easier and I have had the pleasure of finding out about some great online stores that stock amazing wooden kids toys, such as these by Le Toy Van from Mimi and Jojo's Online Store. They are more eco-friendly than their mass-produced, plastic counterparts. My girls, however, are at the more techno-orientated age, where things like Kindles and iPads feature high on their Christmas lists. (www.mimiandjojo.com)

Gifts for men

I always love my hubby to smell good, so men's fragrances are always a winner. Another top choice for men's gifting is sporting equipment. Cape Union Mart is a good place for all things "camel manish". And if all else fails, a trendy T-shirt or casual collared shirt is my last resort. I do try to do a bit of scouting throughout the year and as I find interesting, potential gifts, I drop a few hints and judge whether there is any interest in these items. Christmas goodies

Our family tradition is to collect at least two new and unusual decorations for our tree each year. I usually do most of my Christmas shopping at Woolworths, but I do find that the best places to find unusual decorations, are the pop up Christmas stores in the various shopping malls or at markets. Other favourites of mine are the smaller boutique décor stores such as Isabelina in Cape Town. (www.isabelina.co.za)

Wish list

I always have a rather extensive list but my biggest wish this year was for a new oven, which I am truly blessed to be getting! It is a bit of an early Christmas pressie but I am so excited because I love cooking! Also on my list is a new jewellery box, as I have so much costume jewellery my current one is overflowing.
