RIP: Whitney Houston

American singer and actress Whitney Houston passes away at age 48.

 

Six time Grammy Award winner and actress, Whitney Houston passed away on Saturday night in Beverly Hills on the eve of the 2012 Grammy Awards. She was just 48.

The iconic singer reached the height of her fame between the 1980s and late 1990s with hits like 'I Will Always Love You', 'Greatest Love of All' and 'I am Every Woman'.  She has been credited as being a major influence on award winning artists such as Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey. With more than 140 million records sold, Whitney is still one of the top-selling artists in pop music history.

Since the news of the singer's death was announced, condolences have been pouring in from all over the world and a lot of celebrities have taken to twitter to share their feelings. Yesterday, singer Mariah Carey tweeted, 'Heartbroken and in tears over the shocking death of my friend ... She will never be forgotten as one of the greatest voices to ever grace the earth'.

At last night's Grammy Awards ceremony, Jennifer Hudson performed a goose bump-inducing tribute to Whitney Houston. Watch the video below:

She was my favourite singer, and it's so sad that her life has ended the way it did R.I.P. Whitney there r so many people who loved u and still loves u even though u r not with us anymore
