Top movies of 2012
From secret agents to tigers and werewolves, 2012 has been a movie year to remember. Here are some of the critics' top picks for 2012.
Searching for Sugar Man
FAIRLADY Editor, Suzy Brokensha rates this as one of her favourite movie of the year and with good reason! This documentary tells the amazing story of two South Africans on an epic search to find Rodriguez- the singing sensation who never knew he was famous. We won't blame you if you already have 'Sugar man' stuck in your head.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a story about the highs and lows of growing up.
Skyfall
This is the 23rd Bond film and also marks the 50th anniversary of James Bond. It has been a huge success worldwide and we have to say that Daniel Craig is fast-becoming our favourite Bond. Watch as James Bond's loyalty to M is tested when her past comes back to haunt her. Have you seen it yet? Tell us what you think.
The Dark Knight Rises
This action-packed film showcases Batman's return to Gotham and facing up against terrorist leader, Bane. We particularly loved Anne Hathaway as cat woman - she maintained the perfect icy demeanour of an unwilling hero.
Magic Mike
Yes, this is a movie about male strippers (and gorgeous ones too!), but it is worth a watch? Channing Tatum co-wrote the film and the story is inspired by his own life. If you haven't seen it yet, be sure to watch it - even if it's just in the name of curiosity!
Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2
While it didn't make the top lists for 2012, Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 was still a major hit at the box office and with you, our readers. This conclusion to the Twilight franchise documents the start of Bella's exciting life as a vampire.
Other films that haven't reached South African screens yet but are sure to be the highlight of the year are Life of Pi and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Life of Pi is an epic tale of a young man who survives a disaster at sea is hurtled into a life of adventure with a fearsome Bengal tiger. If you were a fan of Lord of the Rings, then The Hobbit is sure to be on your list of must-see movies. Both movies hit the big screen in mid-December. See the trailers below and tell us which one you'll be watching!
