5-6 October: Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction

Wine lovers will have an opportunity to taste over 52 auction wines at the Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction in the Stellenbosch Winelands Pre-Auction tasting. The next day Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction will take place at 9am.

Where: Stellenbosch Winelands, Cape Town

6 October: Pick n Pay Women’s Walk

This month Pick n Pay Women’s Walk aims to raise awareness among women to get themselves regularly tested for breast cancer. The 5km walk takes place at Kenilworth Race Track and all funds raised will go to the PinkDrive campaign.

The PinkDrive campaign aim to improve breast cancer awareness and education by offering services to women across South Africa, particularly to those who do not have access to information on breast health.

Where: Kenilworth, Cape Town

Time: 9am

Cost: Adults: R35, under 18s: R20

12-13 October: Breedekloof Festival

Breedekloof Festival is the place to be for wine lovers. The two day event will be spent tasting wines and enjoying live music. There will also be food stalls selling roosterkoek, sosaties and hotdogs. There will be an opportunity to play golf at the festival.

There will be a play area for the kids.

Where: Du Toitskloof Cellar, Cape Town

Time: 8am-5pm

Cost: R60 per person for a festival pass with free entry and wine tastings at cellars in the Breedekloof area.

   

13 October: Laborie Paarl Rock Trail Run

Do you love running? Laborie Wine Farm is back for the annual Paarl Rock Trail Run event, in conjunction with the Drakenstein Municipality, to acknowledge Breast Cancer Awareness Month. There will be a 20km race and a 9km. All entrants are required to wear pink and will receive a complimentary bottle of Laborie wine.

Upon your return to the farm take a leisurely stroll through the popular Laborie Lazy Days’ Market.

Time: 9am 2pm

19-21 October: Robertson Wine on the River

Robertson Wine on the River is back on the banks of the Breede River for the 7th time. Visitors will enjoy the country side with a selection of over 300 wines from over 40 wineries, while soaking up the rhythm of live jazz, ballads and blues. The Robertson Farmers Market will host food stalls offering tasty meals. Tutored chardonnay tastings will be on offer in the Chardonnay Tent as well as river cruises.

There will be a wide selection of activities for children, which makes this a perfect family outing.

Time: 9am-9pm

26 October: Foreign Film Fridays

Do you love foreign movies? The last Friday in October Le Bonheur wine estate will be hosting a fun evening starting with watching the sun set behind the vineyards and mountains. Dinner will follow with wine and a movie.

The scheduled movie to look forward to is the 2006 documentary, called God Grew Tired of Us, which won the 2006 Sundance Grand Jury Prize.

Where: Le Bonheur wine estate, Cape Town

Time: 6-10pm

Cost: R45 per person for the film and wine only or R125 per person for the film, a Sudanese-inspired dinner and dessert.

 
 

26-31 October: Horrorfest

Halloween season is upon us and for the first time HorrorFest will open its doors to Johannesburg for horror movie fans. This all-encompassing event embraces all aspects of horror entertainment from its serious to its lighter side. This year the theme is: Frankenstein. Get dressed up and enjoy the festival.

Where: The Bioscope, Johannesburg

27 October: Indian Film Festival

If you love Bollywood movies you will be happy to hear that Utkarsh Projects has taken the initiative to promote Indian movies in South Africa. Come and meet your favourite celebrities and watch your favourite movies.

Where: Gallagher Estate, Johannesburg

Time: 10am – 9pm

Cost: Free

   

31 October: Chase The Sunset Halloween Run

Enjoy a 5km or a 10km run through the vineyards with the start and finish line at the cellar to celebrate halloween. After working up an appetite you can enjoy delicious chicken burgers or boerewors rolls. There will be live music to enjoy and wine tasting and sales will be available for spectators and runners.

Don't forget to don your scariest outfit because the best dressed runner stands a chance of winning a prize.

Where: Durbanville Hills, Cape Town

Time: 5pm- 8pm

Cost: R60 per runner

Remember to bring a head lamp to use whilst running!
