FAIRLADY favourites

Each month the FAIRLADY team tells you what we're loving!

Favourite beauty:

'When it comes to fragrance, I am the fussiest person. Usually, I prefer musky and powdery scents, yet I've fallen in love with something completely different. It's Miss Dior Eau Fraiche Eau De Toilette and it's magnificent! Whenever I spritz some of this floral scent, I am immediately uplifted. Containing notes of jasmine and patchouli, you cannot help but think of spring. And the bottle is simply adorable! Available at selected Edgars and Stuttafords stores nationwide.' - Kelli Clifton, assistant beauty editor

'My favourite scent at the moment is Calvin Klein Sheer Beauty EDT. It's a light subtle fragrance that lasts all day. Made from a masterful cocktail of peach bellini, red berry, bergamot, jasmine and peony to name a few, this shimmering scent has me feeling summery and fresh despite the dropping temperatures. A minimalistic fragrance that only a master like Calvin Klein could create.' - Catherine Zachariou, junior beauty editor

Favourite fashion:

Our digital editor, Jen Searle just can't get enough of online shopping. 'It's my biggest fashion fix - from jewellery to clothes, I shop in my lunch break or from the comfort of my couch in the evening. There are so many fabulous local online stores I have to remind myself that my credit card limit is not a target!'

Favourite kitchen must-have:

Elizabeth Atmore, health editor, is currently admiring a rather humble recipient. 'I’m currently swooning over... baking soda. Sexy, no? But I couldn’t be more chuffed with this blue box if it contained a diamond ring and said ‘Tiffany’. I rediscovered baking soda last week when my fridge starting emitting a smell that made me apologise to guests before they even entered my home – a smell that had no discernible origin (promise there weren’t any unidentifiable leftovers lurking on the bottom shelf), but which was so bad that my husband was threatening to go out and by a new fridge, price be damned. I remembered my mom saying that an open box of baking soda (sometimes labelled bicarbonate of soda) placed in the fridge would absorb all the smells, so I tried it out – 25 minutes later the wretch-inducing smell was gone. GONE! For the grand price of R15.95 (as opposed to the almost R10 000 for a new, smell-free fridge). Money well spent, I’d say.'

Favourite books:

'I just finished reading the most gripping psychological thriller by Sophie Hannah, Kind of Cruel. It’s her latest release and fans aren’t going to be disappointed – I was enthralled and could barely put it down. The surprise twist at the end kept me thinking long after I’d finished the book, so I can definitely recommend it to anyone who likes this kind of complex, ingenious read.' - Julia Boltt, consumer project manager

'I recently became #greysessed with the racy (but relatively tame) BDSM romance novel Fifty Shades of Grey. It is SO badly written, I found myself laughing out loud at some of the lines (‘I want you and the thought of anyone else having you is like a knife twisting in my dark soul’ is a classic) – and yet I could not put it down. It’s not for everyone, but it didn’t become an Amazon bestseller for nothing.' - Robyn MacLarty, senior sub-editor

Favourite movie:

In November last year we asked you who would make a better villian in the two upcoming film versions of Snow White. Julia Roberts stared in 'Mirror Mirror' and our local lady, Charlize Theron is starring in 'Snow White and the Huntsman'. The general consesus was that Charlize had the ability to go dark and really embrace a villian. We agreed and now we can't wait to see the movie which release nationwide on 1 June 2012 - judging by the trailer it's going to be great.

Favourite TV show:

In the FAIRLADY office most Wednesday mornings are dominated by conversations about MasterChef South Africa. From which judges we like to who should've been voted out - we just can't get enough of this show. We thoroughly enjoyed the Australian version and it's such a treat to watch this great show with a local flavour.

You can watch MasterChef South Africa on Tuesdays at 19h30 on M-Net (DStv channel 101).

Favourite song:

He's a notorious playboy and has a voice that can seduce just about anyone. That's right, John Mayer is back after taking a break from music and moving to Montana for some 'soul-searching'. We're please to hear that he will soon be releasing his fifth album and judging from his latest single 'Shadow Days' we're in for a very different style of John. Have a listen and tell us what you think.
