Freshlyground: Greatest Hits
FAIRLADY senior designer, Janine Nortjé reviewed Freshlyground's Greatest Hits album.
Freshlyground consists of seven extremely talented members (vocally and instrumental) from South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. This collection of hits celebrates a decade of their music since their formation in 2002.
'Bear in mind the words of strangers may lead you astray for everything you knew was true /Every corner of tomorrow may bring the sorrow hiding in the blue / But for now hide your worries in the very heart of the rolling moon.' (from ‘Fire Is Low’)
‘Pot belly’, ‘Doo be doo’
Freshlyground is an incredibly groovy and diverse band and it shows: they incorporate kwela, african folk, blues, indie rock as well as jazz into their albums. Their songs have energy, soul and amazing rhythm that you can’t help but get lost in. I feel that their originality will take them far and I have a huge appreciation for their talent as their songs never have a ‘heard it before’ vibe. They are so homegrown and unique!
