Talking music with Louise Carver

Your album is due to be released next month. What has the journey been like so far? Who did you work with?

The first single from the ablum is entitled, 'How You Gonna Do It', but I have not yet titled the album, as it is always the last thing I do before it goes to print. The journey of making my 5th studio album has been liberating and exciting as I have done exactly what I wanted to do at all times including working with two equally talented but different producers, Chris Tuck and Chris Hoy.

How would you describe this album? Is it very different from your previous albums? 

All my albums are different - I have experimented through the years with rock, pop and dance and on this album, my aim was to have an up tempo album combining all three of these genres. The songs go through a myriad of emotions from dark to light - such is life!

What can your fans expect your first single, 'How You Gonna Do It'? 

They will experience a side of me musically that they haven't heard before and will be amazed at how easy it is to sing along to a song, which has such dark lyrics.

Tell us a little bit about the 'How You Gonna Do It'video. What inspired it?

One thing I am good at is picking my team and I chose to work with award-winning director, Morgan Dingle. I had my ideas of how the music video should be, but Morgan came up with this concept and it won hands down. He used two very special things in this video, namely a camera which can shoot exquisite detail in a dark space C300, which is not often used in SA and never for a music video and he used a technique called camera obsquera, which I talk about in 'The making of' EP. I spent two days in a box and was pretty much in the buff (covered in all the right parts though). It was a liberating experience and I felt strangely comfortable even though we had a crew of 15 guys. I think it was because we were making something so unique and I felt like I was part of a painting. Everyone worked so hard on making this video that it was less about me and more about creating something to be proud of.

You are going on a nationwide tour. Tell us about it.

We will play all of our fans' favourite songs plus some of the new material. We will be travelling with a big crew yet in venues that still have an intimate feel. I also love meeting as many fans after the show as possible.

Where would be your ultimate venue to perform and why?

The Grammys - now that would be a proud moment!

Is there someone you would like to collaborate with and why?

Sting would be great - I love his music and I think our voices would blend well together. I would also like to do a song with my great friend and fellow artist Lira - we just need to find the time.

What are your plans after the tour?

A week holiday in Mauritius - I can't wait! When I come back, my team and I will start planning wonderful album launches across SA.
